I recently found out that I was stage 3c melanoma and under went two major cancer surgeries. The surgeries were 3 hours long. Its been a rough road.
Thankfully the doctor’s were able to remove all the cancer, which started out from a mole on my back and spread to a lymph node under my arm.
My pet scan came back good, and the second set of lymph nodes were negative. However due to stage the cancer was that it had reached the lymph system, I have to have cancer injects every 3 weeks for four times, then every 12 weeks for 3 years.I had my first inject of a new med called yervoy.
I started having reactions to the med, few days after I got it,I broke out with a rash across my chest and arms, then my lymph nodes under my chin, under my jaw and behind my ears swelled up,under my lip was raw like as if I had too much acidity, then I started with itching every where, and now my ears are plugged like I am in a tunnel.
Dr.on call gave me steroids and antibiotics because I was digging my self so much from the itching.
My immune system is low from loss of lymph nodes and injection, and now I am fighting a cold or infection from people coming around me sick.Coughing, sneezing, plugged ears, throat discomfort and congestion, cold chills, and dizziness.
I also had my physical therapy for lymphademia,I was given manual massage to move the drainage of swelling in arm and breast from loss of lymph nodes. My arm was wrapped with compression bandages to which I was not able to tolerate the wrap for more than an hour.I am being fitted for a sleeve and compression bra and hopefully will be able to tolerate that.
I go back to the cancer center this week to have another injection, not sure what will be done?I am concerned because of side effects and there’s only a few med’s for melanoma.I will soon find out.I am so thankful for all the prayers that have gone on for me,and that are still going on for me and all the encouragement from my loving husband, children, family, churches, and all my followers.I will continue to blog about my experience so that I may help others going through this.
If there’s anything I could say to anyone about melanoma, its a very nasty cancer and grows quickly, I didn’t even know it was on my back until my girls discovered it.Don’t play around with moles if they change in shape, color, size, hurt, bleed or scab.Go right away and have them removed. This is your life.
