The garden or backyard, depending on which side of the Atlantic that you live, often gets a little neglected. But in order for it to not get neglected, it needs to be considered another room of the house. So as you tidy and clean your home, that space should get included in the roster, right? With summer in full swing, it means plenty of time to be outside. Which in turn, means plenty of time to enjoy the space and spruce it up a little. But if your outside space is in need of a bit of a declutter, then here are some tips to get you started. Then you can enjoy the outside space all summer long.
If you haven’t been out in your garden for a while, then it is time to get out there and have a rake or a sweep up. Leaves and debris can clog trains and mean plenty of places for pests to hide. So start today and sweep up the area. If you can, then do this on a daily basis (but at least weekly if you can’t manage daily). It will look better, as well as not lead to any other issues or problems out in your yard.
Keep Everything in Order
Like you would arrange things in a wardrobe or bookcase inside the house, you should also look to keep things in order outside of the house too. If you have a wooden shed, then make sure that it is varnished, and any cracks or holes are covered. With metal barns, make sure that the paint is not rusting and look for signs of wear and tear. For greenhouses, make sure that all glass is intact and not broken. Oil any squeaking gates, as well as check fencing and varnish or fix where needed. If you deal with things as they arise, it makes it easier to correct them.
If you have a shed full of things that you have not used for over a year, then get rid of them. If you have plant pots that are empty or are damaged, then get rid of them. Your garden space doesn’t need to be cluttered with this kind of thing. The space will be clearer and tidier if you get rid of the clutter. So what are you waiting for?
Clean It Up
If you don’t clean your garden regularly, then there is a lot of dirt and grime that can accumulate. So if you haven’t done this for a while, then there is no time like the present. It is a good idea to get something like a pressure washer to clean tiles or patios, and then use soapy water for tools, as well as cleaning anti-mold products for the outside of the house. It will look like new in no time!
The list could go on and on with your outside space. But the thing with a yard is that it is alive, and will need more work over time to keep looking good. So little and often is key in the garden.
