Gift shopping. You either love it, or you hate it. Those of you who hate it probably do so because you find it so hard to pick out the perfect gifts for your loved ones. It’s a real problem, especially when you don’t know what people already have or you’re into completely different things. However, it is possible to find the perfect gift for everyone guaranteed. Here’s how:
Write a List
Whether you’re looking for birthday presents, Christmas gifts or something special for your Valentine, before you head out to the mall or log onto Amazon, sit down and make a list of all the things you know the recipient is interested in, and everything you know about them. Add as much stuff to the list as you can, no matter how silly or insignificant you might think it is. Now, take some time to match up a few products with these interested and turn them into a unique hamper that shows how much effort you’ve put in. There isn’t a person alive who wouldn’t love such a thoughtful gift!
Give an Experience
If you can’t find the perfect present on the shelves, why not get your loved one an experience gift instead? They might not appreciate that lotion set, but they sure will appreciate a day at the spa! Just make sure you pick an event that they’re really interested in. If you have no ideas, a voucher for a restaurant is always good because everybody has to eat!
Think About Recent Life Changes
One way to step up your gift-giving game is to look at the lives of the recipients you’re giving to, in order to determine what they might need. For example, if they’ve recently retired, get them something special to mark the momentous occasion. There are so many great retirement gift ideas to choose from, including wooden plaques, retirement survival kits, and engraved hip flasks that you’re sure to find something they’ll love. Just try to be creative.
Another example would be that of a giftee who’s recently given birth. Buying her a post-pregnancy gift, like a new mom survival hamper, or a book about bringing up baby would be great. You might even want to get her a relaxing spa day, so she can have a break from mommy duties.
Do Some Stalking
No, I don’t mean you should follow your friends and family around at a distance to see what they get up to! You could, however, check to see if they have an Amazon wishlist, or if you know they frequent certain forums, check that out to see if they’ve mentioned anything. Even going through their Facebook posts might give you some idea for a gift they’ll really love.
Personalizing a gift is a great way of making it more meaningful. So, if you’re great at oil paintings, good at knitting or have another skill that translates well into a gift, give them that. Even if it isn’t something they would have thought about buying for themselves, they’ll love it because of the effort you’ve put in.
Make It Funny
If all else fails and you’re really struggling to pick out the perfect gift, go for the gag gifts. Have a friend who’s always cursing? Buy them a swear jar, or if you know someone who’s always eating popcorn, buy them a ton of the stuff. If you can make them laugh, they’ll be happy and so will you.
