You can’t be a great artist without the right brushes, you can’t be a fantastic cook without the right utensils and kitchen accessories. There are a few things you can buy for your kitchen that will make things oh, just so much easier for you cooking. Or, simply allow you to add a little flavor, zing, and zest to your cooking. Let’s look at a few of little things you need in your kitchen to ensure that you have the perfect setup to make a delicious meal.
Don’t you just hate it when you can’t find anything to put your hot dishes, pans or baking trays on when you take them out of the oven? We often wander around the kitchen like headless chickens while the rest of the family looks on in amusement. If that sounds familiar, you should consider getting a trivet. A trivet is essentially just a metal matt that balances on little legs. You can put pans and hot trays on here while you prepare the next part of the meal. It’s a great way to make things easier for you. They can also be used to dispense heat from a hot pan.
A Spoon Rest
When you’re cooking, or stirring a delicious stew, where do you put the ladle or spoon. You might balance it on the handle of the pan or pot, but this almost always leads to it falling on the floor, instantly pleasing the dog. Or, you might leave it on the side, but that’s just going to make your countertop messy and dirty. If you hate it when your kitchen looks like a disaster zone after you have been cooking, consider getting a spoon rest. It’s an elegant little accessory, perfect for placing your spoon while you’re cooking. Any liquids drip off into a small bowl, and you can wash it later once you’re finished, keeping the mess in check.
A Dutch Oven
Busy day ahead? You might already be scheduled to arrive home late, and you don’t want the rest of the family waiting for you to cook dinner. Or rather, you don’t want to have to cook dinner when you get in! Well, with dutch ovens, you can prepare the food the night before or in the morning before you leave, when you still have enough energy. On a low heat, a dutch oven will cook food for you nice and slow, never burning. Once you get home after several hours, it will be ready, and the amount of preparation work for the meal will be minimal. The best part is that cooking like this uses a fraction of the energy of a typical oven, so it’s an energy saver too!
Herbs & Spices Rack
Your dish needs a little more flavor. You rummage around the cupboard for the right herb or spice, but unfortunately, you can never seem to find one. Those little containers are great at hiding beneath or behind or tins or cans of food. What you need is a spice rack. This can often store all the spices you could ever need from the typical salt and pepper to Italian seasoning and hot spices. Keep it close to your hob, and you’ll be able to reach over whenever you need to add a little more zing or zap to your dish.
I hope you add these little bits and bobs to your kitchen. If you do, you’re sure to find they make cooking in the kitchen a lot easier.
